I'm going to do my best to post once a month. Keep checking back.

7 Months

Things Ryder has been up to this month:
*Babbling. (He has been "talking" for a while now, but all of a sudden it is like he is trying to have a real conversation with us)
*Saying Da-da as well as B and G sounds
*Wearing 3-6 month shirts and 6-9 month pants and sleepers
*Eating solids three times a day and nursing every four hours
*Working on feeding himself puffs
*Sleeping 12 straight hours at night and taking two naps a day
*Playing independently
*Using the toilet (By using the toilet I mean, if I happen to catch him grunting I know what is coming next so I run him frantically to the bathroom where he uses the toilet)
*Wiggling up to the corner of his crib to sleep
*Laughing lots
*Reaching out his arms when he wants up to be held by someone

Happy Halloween

No trick-or-treating for us. Just giving Ryder his first taste of the Monster Mash.

If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em

That is the conclusion we came to when it comes to Ryder's sleeping position. He would cry in bed until he wiggled himself sideways and to the top of the bed anyways. Plus if we moved him while he was sleeping he would just wake up and cry until he wiggled back into his favorite position. So, alas, now we just lay him down sideways at the top of his crib just like he likes. Works like a charm.

Peace, Love and Puffs

Ryder is slowly (very very slowly learning) to feed himself. Not the most exciting video to watch, but this is the stuff that makes up our days. Enjoy!

I have been trying to capture this moment on camera for days now. I finally did it, and Ryder just happened to be in the perfect shirt. Also, please forgive my really high pitched annoying squeal. I was just a tad bit excited. Seriously, you might want to turn the volume down. :) Sorry it's sideways. I forgot you can't rotate videos.

Say It Ain't So

Smooth and swooped in the front
Spiked in the back.
Ryder woke up today sporting the Kate Gosselin hair-don't. We must fix this. Fast.

And Freeze

Brandon does this every night before bed. Ryder freezes every time.

Nighty Night

When we put Ryder down to sleep he is always right in the middle of his crib. Some how each night when we go back in to check on him, he has wiggled his way up to the top and has something over his face. Must be a comfort thing. And yes, we always remove it.
In other news: I have waited to put this down in writing for fear that it will jinx us. But its been four nights now, so I think we can safely let you all know Ryder has been sleeping the entire night through. IT IS AMAZING! Brandon and I are still working on sleeping through the night without waking up around 4 AM worried he isn't breathing or something crazy like that.

Not only do we wake up more refreshed, but we can see a huge change in Ryder. He is happy all the time. He naps better, eats better, is more content, etc. Its good times here at the Rodriguez household.

Then and Now

LOVE YOU FOREVER (by Robert Munsch)
A mother held her new baby and
very slowly rocked him back and forth,
back and forth, back and forth.
And while she held him, she sang:
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

The baby grew. He grew and he grew and he grew...

I think it's time to retire the baby items. Ryder still actually loves them all with the exception of the car seat, but they just aren't safe any more. He can now finagle his way out of them. Milestones are bittersweet sometimes.

Watch Out for Falling Washcloths

Ryder was in a bit of a manic mood this evening during his bath. That means big cries but also big laughs. In an attempt to stop him from crying I tried to distract him with the washcloth. Mission accomplished. I think we laughed just as hard as he did.

First Snow of the Season

You heard it right. It snowed last night. It's only mid-October. Last year it didn't snow until mid-December. I sure hope it isn't a sign. Thankfully, it all melted by morning, and it feels like a normal fall day today. Before we knew it was going to be nasty out last night we agreed to go to a friend's house to watch a movie. I took the opportunity to bust out Ryder's winter hat. Isn't it so funny?
But was thrilled about the adventure before bed.

6 Month Pictures

While my mom was up we stopped in at Picture People to have Ryder's 6 months pictures taken. He did awesome. We have a little ham on our hands. Now comes the hard part: deciding which pictures to buy.

Ryder Sure Loves His Daddy

I don't know if there is a better feeling in the world than when our active (and I mean active) little boy rests his head on us even if it is only for a moment.

Dining Out

Oh, I remember when we could just carry our little guy in the restaurant in his car seat where he would sleep through the entire meal. Not so much anymore.
