I'm going to do my best to post once a month. Keep checking back.

11 Months

If you notice Ryder is holding my phone in this picture. Something I swore I would NEVER let my child do. Well it was literally the ONLY way I could get a picture of him holding still. Trust me, I tried for three days. Here's what Ryder has been up to this month.
*Playing chase and peekaboo
*Giving high fives, doing the touchdown sign, turning lights on and off
*Getting his fourth tooth
*Putting objects into other objects
*Stacking and organizing his toys
*Signing more, all done, yes and down (sporadically)
*Having his first haircut
*Scaring us (his favorite game)
*Loving trips to the basement
*Taking his first swim in a pool
*Wearing 12 month clothes

Showing Us His Will

Ryder was having no part in getting his picture taken tonight. Let's just say we have some will breaking ahead of us. You'll have to wait until tomorrow for his 11 months stats. Here are the best pics I could get. :)

Cop·y·cat: a person or thing that copies, imitates, mimics, or follows the lead of another

He is always watching. Always observing. Just soaking in all we do. It's a little scary.

One of Brandon's favorite things to do is give Ryder a little scare. Brandon will hide and then pop out of no where and say boo. Ryder just eats it up. The more Brandon makes him jump the more Ryder likes it. Well, our little one has picked up this love. His new thing is to try and scare me as I change his diaper.

Also, today I put Ryder's diaper in the diaper pail. It is basically a trash can with a lid that we put the cloth diapers in until they are washed. I then went to wash my hands leaving Ryder in his room to play. As I washed I heard the diaper pail lid close. I told Ryder "no" and went in to make sure he wasn't playing in it. He was just sitting there all sad looking. I noticed the lid was open a little and it looked like I had left the diaper sticking out a bit, so I went to push it all the way in the pail. Sure as the world the little stinker had taken his sock off, opened the lid, put it in the pail and closed the lid.

Baby Signs

After almost eleven months of me signing and signing to Ryder, he finally signed back. It's not perfect technique, but it's a start. I am one proud mama.
I was offering him more blueberries. He responded with the sign for yes. And, yes, I do just have my camera in my back pocket at all times so I never miss a moment.

Ryder's First Haircut

He was diggin' the chair,
not so sure about the apron
and loved chewing on the extra comb.
He just chewed it
and looked at it in amazement
and chewed some more as he sat content as could be.
He was completely unaware of the milestone he was taking part in
as the hairdresser snipped his sweet baby locks away.

What a Difference a Nap Makes

This so morning was not one of Ryder's shining moments. Let me just list for you a few reasons he all out broke down. I'm talking crying, flailing of the arms, etc. I'm sure you get the picture.
-Being taken away from the toilet with wet hands (I'm blaming Brandon for not shutting the door since he's not here to defend himself)
-Not being allowed to take apart the humidifier and play in the water
-He didn't want blueberries for breakfast
-I adjusted his tray while he was eating
-He was out of blueberries and wanted more
-I put more blueberries on his tray (Seriously, the kid was killing me)

I could go on, but I'll stop. So I mentally prepared myself for a bad day ahead. I put Ryder down for a nap expecting a fight, but there was no fight to be had. And best of all, he woke up in the greatest mood. His hair soaked from sweat that comes from those long, hard naps which is always a good sign. Now he's up to his favorite activity as of late: sorting his toys. They all start in one basket and he moves them to the other one by one. This could keep him busy for a while.

Number Two

Watch me grow...
7 weeks 5 days

12 weeks 5 days

15 weeks 5 days

Number Two will be 17 weeks tomorrow. I can feel him/her moving more and more. We're looking very forward to finding out the sex in a few short weeks. And even more forward to meeting this little one in a few short months.

The Portland Pirates

Brandon had the day off. Thank you very much former presidents of the USA. We decided to take advantage of the vacation day and go to the minor league hockey game. We were going to go all out paying the extra few dollars for the better seats. While waiting in the line to buy our tickets, a couple walked up to us and handed us three free tickets. Woohoo! Best of all they were fantastic seats right on the center line.
Ryder soaked in all the new sites and sounds. Look at his face. I don't think we saw a smile for the first thirty minutes we were there. He just looked around, calm as can be.
That was until the first two Pirates goals. Oops. I guess hundreds of people clapping, train whistles going off, and loud music might be a little scary if you aren't sure what's going on. Thankfully, he got used to it after the first two goals because they went on to score five more.
At one point Ryder was popping black beans like popcorn as he watched the game. It was too funny. Then he enjoyed some licks of a frozen lemonade. One of the best parts of live sporting events are the snacks.
I'm not sure if Ryder is a hockey fan or not. He seemed more interested in watching the heckler behind us than the game. He would hear the guy yell and then Ryder would yell himself. Let's hope between the angry yelling and the fighting on the ice Ryder didn't pick up any bad habits.

While this video is cute it might leave you wondering why the heck I am in Ryder's crib. I wanted to get a picture of his new "teething" toy...
his crib. If you look closely you can see his bite marks. Poor little guy must be in need of some relief.

A New Day

It's been a rough week. Ryder and I came down with a wicked bug. Can I just say I wasn't aware how terrible being sick was when you have another human being depending on you for everything. This coupled with the fact that his fourth tooth coming in has been by far the most troublesome for him. So this is my excuse for not posting in a while. Forgive me. But today was a new day. It was unusually warm and sunny. I felt great after two days of not. There has been no throwing up for twenty four hours. The house is clean. Life is good. Here are some bath pics. Ryder has taken to chewing on his fingers to ease his teething pain. I'll have to show you his other method we discovered today in another post. But for now, our sweet boy...

It's the Little Things In Life

Like the opportunity to venture down to an area of the house yet to be explored.
He has this reaction anytime we open the basement door. If he is playing he will stop and beeline to the door hoping for a chance to go down to the magical place that is our dingy old basement.

Super Bowl XLIV

Last year Kylee was visiting during the Super Bowl. We didn't watch any of it because we were putting the finishing touches on Ryder's nursery. This year Ryder is staying up late to enjoy the game with us (at least a little of it). Oh what a year!
Then he got tired of the game, so daddy made him load the dishwasher.
After his "chores" he showed us a trick we didn't know that he knew.

Meet Lenny

He is the world's only life size chocolate moose, and he lives right by us. Who knew?

It's Fun to Swim at the YMCA

We just got a Y membership, so we decided to hit up the open swim today. Ryder did fine. I would say he was neither here nor there about being in the water. He LOVED watching all the other kids swimming though.

Fifteen Weeks

I thought it was high time for #2 to make his or her blog debut.

Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although hereyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds. Finally, if you have an ultrasound this week, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl!

My Rookie Mom Mistake

Awwwww......look at my cute little boy shaking the pasta.
It's all fun and games until somebody opens the box and spills the ziti all over the floor. Next time I need to make sure he shakes the unopened box.
